8 Ways to Avoid Getting a Shady Deal on
Your New Roof or Roof Repair Job |
Most roofing contractors are hard-working people who want to sell you a quality system, install it correctly, and see that you get a good, long-lasting job. But, as in every industry, there are a few sharp contractors out there who just want to take your money and run. Since
RCASF wants to see you get the best installation possible, we've prepared some guidelines to help you select a reliable contractor. |
1. ASK ABOUT THE CONTRACTOR'S STATE LICENSE. |
By state law, all roof installations must be done by a licensed contractor. If you are in doubt about a contractor, call the Department of Business and Professional Regulation at 1-850-487-1395
, they'll be happy to tell you if the contractor is licensed or not. |
2. IF THE DEAL SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE,
IT PROBABLY IS! |
A properly designed and properly installed roof can save you up to 50% of your annual heating and cooling costs. Remember the old cliche..."There is no free lunch." |
3. WATCH OUT FOR HIGH-PRESSURE SALES TACTICS |
Be careful of those who insist you rush into a buying decision, on the spot. All contractors prefer to make an immediate deal; however, any good contractor is willing to give you some time to think over your decision. |
4. ASK HOW LONG THE CONTRACTOR HAS BEEN IN
BUSINESS. |
Ask for a list of previous customers. While longevity in business is not an absolute guide to quality, it does give you some idea of the contractors track record. |
5. ROOFING IS A TOUGH, RISKY BUSINESS |
Roofing is beset with injuries and damage claims. Responsible roofing contractors properly insure their employees, and their customers. Ask to see their workers compensation policy and liability policy. |
6. GET TWO OR THREE BIDS AND COMPARE THE OFFERS |
Price isn't everything, but a written bid can help you see how much each contractor is offering you, for your money. Be sure to compare "apples to apples." There are several roofing systems available, but the important thing for you to do, is to be sure the system has received product approval. |
7. MAKE SURE THE CONTRACTOR GETS A BUILDING PERMIT |
The roofing contractor must comply with local codes. Every installation should be inspected by the local building inspector.
WARNING - Do not pull a permit yourself! |
8. GET ALL THE INFORMATION THAT YOU CAN
BEFORE YOU BUY |
If you follow these eight easy steps ...we think you will
avoid possible problems with your next roof job.
